Product Description
The name of this tablecloth is Balanguera, which is also the name of a hymn from Mallorca. Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands, an archipelago that includes Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. There is also another small archipelago called Cabrera, and for this project, a new island has been imagined—a blend of all the islands. The shape of this fictional island, called Balanguera, reflects elements found across the Balearic Islands: cliffs, bays, harbors, and beaches characteristic of Mallorca, Menorca, and Formentera. It is a mix of all four islands and serves as an homage to the Balearic Islands. The name Balanguera is derived from the hymns of Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. While the Balearic Islands do not have an official anthem, the hymn of Mallorca was chosen as a tribute. A beautiful aspect of the name Balanguera is that it represents both a person and a tool. In the local dialect, Balanguerarefers to a woman who spins thread—a symbolic figure embodying craftsmanship and the delicate art of weaving. This tablecloth, like the hymn it is named after, is a tribute to tradition, artistry, and the hands that create.
