Greenpacha was founded in 2010 after a surf trip to Ecuador sparked a deep admiration for the ancestral craft of toquilla palm weaving, the origin of the iconic Panama hat. Sisters Florencia and Julieta built long-standing relationships with artisan women in the Andean highlands to help preserve and elevate this endangered cultural tradition.
Each Greenpacha hat is handwoven from sustainably harvested toquilla palm, a native plant that grows naturally in Ecuador’s coastal jungle without the need for pesticides or irrigation. The fibers are sun-dried and crafted using techniques passed down through generations, resulting in pieces that carry minimal environmental impact and maximum cultural significance.
Greenpacha operates with a commitment to sustainability, ethical collaboration, and cultural preservation. Artisans are not only paid fair wages but valued as creative collaborators. Each design is a dialogue between past and present, weaving together indigenous knowledge and contemporary aesthetics. The brand connects “green-minded” individuals with the soul of “Pacha” (Mother Earth), offering fashion rooted in respect for both people and planet.
As a brand that does not produce hats, Kilometre.Paris’s collaboration with Greenpacha is motivated by expertise and integrity. Once the hats are crafted in Ecuador, they are sent to Mexico, where they are hand-embroidered by Mexican artisans under Kilometre.Paris’s creative direction. This collaboration honors craft at every stage, respecting the original weavers while giving each hat a new, artful life.
