The Kilometre team’s Sunday treat are the indie short films showing at Le CiNeMa Club. Founded by former producer Marie-Louise Khondji, this new online cinema shows a different film every Sunday for free. Enjoy a carefully curated selection of undiscovered films in the privacy of your own home with just one click.
Le CiNeMa Club’s website also features interviews with filmmakers, celebrities and designers. Icons like Wes Anderson, Chiara Mastroianni and Olympia Le-Tan each recommend their five favourite films, providing another opportunity to discover something new.
Featured during the first week of January was director Olivier Babinet’s first short film, More Like Johnny Walker, which explores the surreal, loopy world of the aimless trio Etienne, Bip and Solveig. We’ve been following Babinet since his series Le Bidule was released in ’98; be sure to check out his recently released documentary Swagger as well.
Make the best of the rainy weather this week – curl up on your sofa and follow Houda Benyamina’s The Road to Paradise with us. The harrowing story of Leila, an illegal immigrant and single mum struggling to raise two young children in France and the UK, will have you at the edge of your seat. Actress turned director Benyamina has already been nominated at the Golden Globes and Cannes; we’re eagerly awaiting her next film.
