Held from the 4th of July to the 25 of September, Les rencontres de la photographie in Arles, is probably one of the most exciting events of French summer. If you are lucky enough to pass by this beautiful city, here is the few shows you shouldn’t miss.
The Hollow of the Hand, Pj Harvey & Seamus Murphy, at Eglise Saint-Pierre.
The singer and photographer travelled together through Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Washington, collecting images and words to draw a poetic travel through this lands.
Torture, Andres Serrano, Collection Lambert. The artist explores the history of torture with disturbing still-lives of objects and machines. This disturbing work questions the use of this method from the Middle Ages to our contemporary societies.
Deux Ex Machina, Katerina Jebb, Musée Réattu. First monographic exhibition of the self-taught artist, this how is an immersion into a mysterious and singular universe. Using a digital scanner as a camera, Katerina Jebb disturbs our perception of reality by creating contemporary icons.
Toiletpaper, Maurizio Catalan & Pierpaolo Ferrari, Parc des Ateliers. A retrospective showing images from “Toiletpaper” magazine, all playing with codes of fashion and advertising. These images featuring saturated colours provoke a confusion in the viewer’s eyes.
